In his role as Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer at MCAP, Jebon Lok oversees all financial operations at MCAP, including budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning. Over his 15 years with the organization, he has been promoted from Assistant Controller to progressively senior finance roles. The team he leads today is responsible for managing MCAP's corporate and trust assets and liabilities, preparing the financial reporting for all entities, and ensuring the company is in compliance with any obligations related to funding and hedging programs. This also includes ensuring that financial controls are in place to safeguard the assets of MCAP and its clients, adhering to regulatory financial reporting, and corporate governance requirements. Jebon is a member of the Executive Management Committee and advises the Board of Directors on MCAP's financial affairs and results.
Growing the Company and the Next Generation at MCAP
As the head of the Finance team at MCAP, Jebon’s goal is to help grow the company – he must ensure there is enough corporate and warehouse liquidity to execute on MCAP’s plans for growth, and he aims to grow key metrics such as earnings, assets under management, originations, renewals and more. This mission is not just for MCAP today, but for its future – and as such, he is committed to equipping the next generation of MCAPers with the necessary skills and knowledge. “Everyone has a limited amount of time in their working life, but corporations can last forever,” he says. “The goal is to set up MCAP so it continues to thrive well after I retire.”
Take Advantage of Opportunities – and Have Fun
Having progressed through the MCAP organization since 2008, Jebon has earned roles that have given him the opportunity to perform at increasingly higher levels. “I am thankful that I have had many opportunities to work on fun projects with great people,” he says. “Having the chance to work with senior management and other departments is similar to ‘on the job’ training. It gives me a chance to see how they handle certain situations, and this has definitely helped with my learning and development.”
He adds that MCAP’s people-first mentality is prevalent throughout the organization. “We take care of our employees,” he says, noting that MCAP clearly values its employees as its most important assets and it’s how Blue Culture manifests in his day-to-day work.
His advice to those looking to advance their career is to take advantage of the opportunities that exist for professional growth.
“Don’t be afraid to work hard and don’t shy away from new projects. It may be daunting to work on a new project that you’re not familiar with, but it gives you exposure to different projects and allows you to meet different people in the company. Most importantly, try to have some fun at work.”
Of course, Jebon has seized the opportunities he has earned with energy and enthusiasm. “If you love what you do, you’ll do it well,” he says. “And if you do your job well, you’ll be recognized and rewarded. If you’re recognized and rewarded, you’ll love what you do. The cycle repeats itself.”
