Every year on March 8th, International Women’s Day (IWD) gives us an opportunity to recognize the achievements, leadership, and impact of women around the world. It’s also a chance to reflect on the work still ahead of us and how we can contribute to a more equitable future.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2026, Give to Gain, reminds us that when we invest in others, we all rise together. Whether it’s sharing knowledge, offering mentorship, or creating opportunities, generosity creates ripple effects that strengthen workplaces and communities.
In the mortgage industry, where relationships, trust, and collaboration drive success, this mindset is especially valuable.
Today, we’re proud to highlight insights from two of MCAP’s women leaders who embody the Give to Gain mindset every day.

How do you incorporate “abundant giving” into your approach to work or life?
“Abundant giving is about showing up and being present. It’s about being available, sharing lessons, and genuinely caring and wanting to help others. I’ve learned that being generous with my time, whether it’s listening without rushing, sharing lessons I’ve learnt, or simply being available and present, goes a long way. An everyday example is taking a few extra minutes to really listen or share practical experience with someone who’s expressing their concerns or someone who’s figuring something out, as opposed to rushing through the conversation.
When you are genuinely present and offer that time and perspective, it often helps others move forward with more confidence while strengthening your trust and connection.” Claudia Sousa
“There have been numerous moments in my life when I was able to overcome challenges only through the generosity and support of others. Their kindness, compassion, and willingness to help guided me through difficult times and reminded me of the strength that comes from community. I believe the most genuine way to express my gratitude is by paying it forward, extending the same generosity and care to others that I was once fortunate to receive.
This belief shapes the way I approach both work and life. Whether through a small act of kindness or by dedicating my time to help someone else, I never hesitate to give back whenever I can.” Anitha Kasturi Rangan
Can you share a moment when giving — time, knowledge, or support — led to meaningful growth?
“I still remember one situation, when I was starting my first full-time job. On my very first day, I quickly realized that the real-world workplace was nothing like what we had learned in graduate school. I felt overwhelmed, uncertain, and couldn’t see a way forward. That’s when my mentor stepped in. He spent four hours with me in a one-on-one session, patiently walking me through the workplace technologies and expectations.
That meeting completely changed my perspective — and, in many ways, my life. If my leader hadn’t demonstrated such an abundant and giving approach that day, I don’t think I’d be where I am today.” Anitha Kasturi Rangan
“Earlier in my career, I participated in the mentorship program where a leader took time to listen, share and provide guidance and support with professional growth. Through that program, I gained a friend and trusted confidant.
That experience and opportunity stuck with me. Since then, I’ve made a point to do the same. Giving time and support has helped others grow in confidence, and it’s helped me become a more thoughtful and patient leader.” Claudia Sousa
What are some intentional ways leaders can embed a Give-to-Gain mindset into workplace culture?
“Leaders can embed the Give to Gain mindset by modelling it themselves. It starts with how leaders show up every day. When a leader is generous with their knowledge, time and attention, it shows others that they value giving.
Encouraging and fostering a culture where knowledge sharing, peer support and cross-team collaboration are the norm promotes the idea that helping others succeed will strengthen the MCAP culture. Leaders should reinforce this mindset by recognizing and celebrating acts of giving. This creates a positive environment where people understand that when we give thoughtfully and consistently, everyone wins!” Claudia Sousa
In your view, what does the mortgage industry stand to gain by supporting more women in leadership?
“Empowering women in leadership is a strategic investment in the future of every industry. As more women advance into senior roles, they redefine leadership norms through mentorship, and inclusive decision-making which strengthens the talent pipeline.
In the mortgage industry, this translates into a more resilient, adaptive ecosystem, one capable of serving of all of our customers and navigating economic change with confidence.” Anitha Kasturi Rangan
