Giving back to the communities where we live and work is important to us. Through MCAP’s different initiatives and programs, our employees are able to lend a hand, support growth and make a difference. One way we’re able to impact a positive change is through our employee-led “We Love Our Community” team. We spoke with the team’s leader, David Greenwood, SVP Single Family, to learn more about the team and all they’ve been able to accomplish.
Tell us about the “We Love Our Community” Initiative at MCAP

The initiative was created as a collective effort of our Single Family Operations (SFO) team coast to coast. We sought out feedback from our teams and learned how important it was for our corporate charitable initiatives to be reflected well across the country. Based on this feedback we decided that we wanted to focus on affordability concerns for Canadians including services that provide resources to assist people with the day-to-day cost of living in Canada. We thought this additional focus would nicely complement our involvement with Habitat for Humanity.

Tell us about the volunteers who participated in the “We Love Our Community” Initiative

The MCAP volunteers who give their time to support food banks, shelters, and clothing drives are truly remarkable individuals with immense hearts and deep compassion. Whether sorting donations, serving meals, or providing a listening ear, they do so with unwavering dedication, always willing to go the extra mile to ensure those facing hardship feel supported and valued. Their contributions extend beyond just the physical help—they offer hope, dignity, and a reminder that people care. Through their actions, they inspire others, creating a ripple effect of kindness and community spirit.
What were some volunteer events that the “We Love Our Community” Initiative has participated in?
Souls Harbour Rescue Mission Clothing Drive |
Our wonderful team in Regina called on friends, family and strangers to collect, sort and deliver clothing to Soul Harbour, a mission that supports those suffering financial instability, addiction and despair with food, clothing, shelter and life-changing recovery programs. Our team focused on ensuring their users had warm clothing prior to the harsh winter season. |
Calgary Food Bank |
Throughout my career, I have always worked with my teams to volunteer at food banks. I have to say, the Calgary Food Bank was the most impressive operation that I have seen. Servicing hundreds of families a day, we helped to fill orders for pick up. We watched people from all walks of life come in after their shifts at work looking for additional help to be able to feed their families. |
Edmonton Food Bank |
Slightly differently at the Edmonton Food Bank, we volunteered in the main distribution warehouse. This included sorting and organizing donations from individuals as well as corporations. The orders were then shipped to the multiple food banks across the Edmonton area that support families struggling with the rising costs of living. |
The Benedict Labre House |
The Benedict Labre House is a key player supporting unhoused communities with meals and resources in the southwest areas of Montreal. We assisted the staff at the house by sorting and cleaning the storage facilities and completing an inventory of their needs. We also provided ideas and education to help them operate the centre efficiently and manage their cash flow. |
OneROOF Youth Shelter |
Our Waterloo-based team had the opportunity to assist OneRoof Youth Services in sprucing up their shelter space in Kitchener with a fresh coat of paint. OneRoof is committed to providing for the safety, support and overall well-being of youth who are experiencing homelessness, and who are at risk of homelessness in Waterloo Region. |
Covenant House Vancouver |
Covenant House Vancouver is an amazing charity focused on providing youth with meals, a safe place to live and learn while they prepare to become independent and self-sufficient. Our Vancouver team supported the “Coldest Night” initiative, where corporate executives raise funds and spend a night on the streets. We prepped equipment for this incredible event and ensured there were resources to make the event a success. |
Bake4Good for Good Shepherd Missionaries |
Leading into the holiday season, we supported the Good Shepherd Mission by baking goods to offer those using the facilities’ food services a special treat during the holiday season. We raised funds to pay for the ingredients and made the food in our Toronto office. |
What motivates the “We Love Our Community” Initiative to keep going?
We’re motivated to support these initiatives because we deeply believe in giving back to the community and making a positive impact. By donating our time and resources, we can directly support organizations that help those in need. It's not just about corporate social responsibility; it's about creating lasting change and fostering a culture of empathy and kindness. We are committed to using our platform to uplift others and contribute to meaningful causes that improve lives in all of the communities we live and work.
